A Thousand Days

(30 March 2013) Seven all new a capella tracks sung by the OP Chorale adorn the EP The Book Of Rounds (op(iii) (USA), 2013) produced by Emil Adler, Marina Belica and Julie Flanders of New York's October Project.

All of the material is performed by Yale University Students. Proceeds from the project are being channeled to support victims of Hurricaine Sandy and the 2012 Newtown Tragedy. Read more about the project in our exclusive interview.

Emil, Marina and Julie sought the expertise of musical diretror Keiji Ishiguri and Ed Boyer to record the songs at Morse Crescent Underground Studios in New Haven, CT during November 2012. Mastering was done by Bill Hare. All seven songs on the CD were written by Julie Flanders and Emil Adler.

The voices are Emma Akrawi (soprano), Andrew Bezek (tenor), Keiji Ishiguri (baritone), Spencer Klavan (bass), Mary Kieshefski (soprano), Hannah LaPaolombara (alto) and Tony Valenzuela (tenor). Note that none of the October Project members perform on this EP. Our editorial staff especially appreciated the brief solos by the sopranos.

Each of the tracks are relatively short and the EP's running time spans only a little over sixteen minutes. Interested visitors should check out the interview and the YouTube links at its conclusion to six of the EP's tracks.

The songwriting and performing are indeed most excellent, as one would expect from October Project and from Yale University students. The material is melodic and meditative and most certainly will serve a calming influence to any listener.

Yale University's music and theatrical arts departments have developed many talented individuals too numerous to list here. However, our editorial staff follows the multi-talented Alison Williams in the HBO hit series Girls weekly. We also anxiously await the release of College Musical-The Movie made in 2010. Check out a range of video material by Yale students at YouTube any time.

October Project inform us that they are moving their next studio album forward and that the instrumental arrangements are adding some complexity to the recording process. Yet they plan to release before the end of 2013. We can't wait. In the meantime, check out The Book Of Rounds!
